The Beach House : local Wairarapa / Martinborough attractions The coastal area offers many opportunities for exploration both on land and in the water. Manurewa Point, which has astonishing geological patterns of uplift and contortion, is also a seal colony and a focal point for swimmers.
Theres a shipwreck (1926) being reclaimed by the sea, 5min drive down the coast. Surfing, diving/snorkeling, and fishing are always rewarding (in one way or another). Remnants of a WW2 radar observatory towers above the river mouth at Te Awaiti.
The physical
history of Maori is everywhere written in the land if you want to see
it, as is the more recent presence of European pastoralists.
The renowned Tora Walk takes in this stretch of coast as it traverses the many and varied landscapes of the area.
Or combine some or all of the above with The Big Day Out, an extravaganza of organised and catered fun, challenge and adventure, with Mcleods Quad Adventures The Martinborough
Information Centre has information on all of these (and more) You may also like
to leave plenty of time on your return home to spend some time in Martinborough
itself with its town square atmosphere, vineyards, olive groves,
restaurants, cafes, pubs, golf courses including a GolfCross course
at Station Bush.
Local events East
of Martinborough, organizes occasional events throughout the
