The Beach House Tora, Wairarapa : Accommodation for the soul

overview

Like no other place on earth the coastal area of Tora / Te Awaiti offers locals and visitors alike a sense of place and perspective on the world that settles the mind and rejuvenates the soul.

Situated right on the coast with nothing between you and South America,

cottageThe Beach House offers you the chance to sit a while, to walk the hills with their magnificent coastal and inland views, or to see a night sky so clear that you’ll remember again how small your daily worries really are.

We have a range of accommodation suitable for a quiet ‘time out’ by yourself to a gathering of family, friends or business associates which can include organized activities, with or without catering.

The buildings sit together on the edge of the farm with private access to the sea less than 50mtr out in front as well as access to the 1600 Acre farm. There are gentle walks (or mountain bike rides) along the foreshore or winding up the stream, or more ambitious tracks in the hills giving spectacular 360deg inland and coastal views.

During the autumn, winter and spring there are many wading birds on the foreshore and in the shallow lake just out in front.

The Beach House, a colourful and snug cottage, is perfect for a couple, a family or small group. It’s more bachy than smart, having a great sense of colour and fun.

It has 2 bedrooms each with a double bed and a bunkroom with a bunk and a single bed. There is also a futon sofa/bed in the living room if needed. All beds are firm. There is a large living/dining room, which looks out to sea, with double glass doors opening out onto a large deck giving an airiness and light to the house. For the cooler months there is a wood burner for warmth.

The Bigger Beach House

The Bigger Beach House, a relocated Shearer’s Quarters full of local history, was purpose renovated with visitor accommodation in mind. Compared to the cottage, it is more ‘up market’ and has softer colors. It is designed to cater for larger groups with a large open kitchen; a large dining table; 2 bathrooms; 2 wood burners; a large hallway and deck, and 4 bedrooms, all with firm beds as follows : One with a king, one with a queen, another with 2 divans which can be used as singles or made up as a double, and another room with 2 bunks (4 single beds). There is also a fouton/sofa bed in the living room and a day bed in the hallway should these be needed.

The Bigger Beach House has wheel chair access throughout the building. There are 2 wood burners and a portable gas BBQ. Additional trestle tables for inside/outside dining.
